How to use TEQ511 equalizer
1/ Setting the Bands:
Use the Low Band and High Band knobs to sculpt your sound. Both bands now can operate as Shelf or Peak filters, including all frequency values (in original device band at 500 Hz and 10 kHz settings work only as Shelf filters, ignoring Peak mode).
2 /Pre- and Post-EQ Filters:
Engage the LP Filter to remove high-frequency content or the BP Filter to isolate specific frequency ranges. Experiment with placing these filters before or after the EQ section for different tonal effects.
3/ Parallel Processing:
Adjust the Dry, Wet, and Mix controls for parallel EQ processing. For instance, blend a heavily processed signal back with the original to maintain dynamics while adding color.
Tips & Tricks
1/ Drum Sculpting: Boost the low band to add punch to kicks while cutting high mids with the BP filter post-EQ to reduce cymbal harshness.
2 / Vocal Brightening: Use the high band in Peak mode for silky, open top-end enhancement. Add a touch of the LP filter post-EQ to tame sibilance.
3 / Bass Tightening: Apply a narrow BP filter pre-EQ to isolate the fundamental, then boost the low band for added depth. Use the Mix control to blend in clarity from the unprocessed signal.
Enhanced Features Compared to the Original
1/ Peak Mode:
Both the 500 Hz and 10 kHz bands work in Peak mode, offering precision not available in the original Electrodyne 511.
2/ Comprehensive Filters:
Added pre-EQ low-pass and post-EQ band-pass filters extend creative possibilities.
3/ Mix Section:
Parallel processing with Dry, Wet, and Mix controls allows nuanced blending of EQ adjustments.
The plugin includes 60+ carefully crafted presets optimized for various sources such as drums, vocals, guitars, and bass. These presets are starting points, designed to showcase the TEQ511’s versatility.
Main Controls
LOW FREQ LEVEL: The filter frequency is fixed at 100 Hz. This control adjusts the level of the lowpass filter (24 dB/oct), affecting frequencies at and below 100 Hz.
LOW BAND FREQ: 50/100/250/500 Hz. This allows adjustment of the low band with a range of fixed frequency points. Use it for adding warmth, weight, or reducing muddiness in your mix. In Peak mode, this band is precise for targeted low-end adjustments, unlike the original 511 which only supports shelving here.
LOW FREQ MODE:
- Shelf / Peak: The filter frequency is fixed at 7.5 kHz. This control adjusts the level of the highpass filter (24 dB/oct), affecting frequencies at and above 7.5 kHz.
HIGH FREQ LEVEL:
- Classic: Replicates the behavior of the original 914 module, where the knobs only attenuate the signal from 0 dB down to -∞.
- Boost: Allows both attenuation and amplification, reducing the signal to -∞ or boosting
it up to +12 dB.
HIGH BAND FEQ: 50/100/250/500 Hz. Offers frequency points for controlling the high band. Ideal for enhancing clarity, brightness, or cutting harshness. Like the Low Band, this band functions in Peak mode, granting enhanced flexibility compared to the original design.
HIGH FREQ MODE (Shelf / Peak): Doubles the resonance intensity, creating sharper peaks and more pronounced harmonic content. Use with caution to avoid distortion.
DRY: Controls the level of the unprocessed signal. Increase for a more natural sound or
parallel processing.
WET: Sets the volume of the EQ-affected signal. Blend with the Dry Level to achieve the
desired tonal effect.
MIX: A global mix control to fine-tune the balance between dry and wet signals for seamless parallel EQ processing.
LP FILTER: This filter removes high-frequency content above the cutoff point.
HP FILTER: Applied pre-EQ or post-EQ. This filter iremoves high-frequency content above the cutoff point.
LP/BP FILTER CHAIN MODES LP and BP filter applied pre-EQ or post-EQ processing.
GAIN OUTPUT: Adjust the level of the main output signal
